Right now I just re-select the patched-in 1440p option instead. For fixing the 1080p/50hz issues I just used a Cheat Engine table if I wanted to select 1920x1080. I'm not really sure what this fix does and I've not tested it myself. I've sent Platinum a pretty long e-mail already in how to re-implement and fix this, so here's hoping we get a patch soon. The implementation is indeed pretty weird, but it can be worked around for now. This can even be abused to get free downsampling with my patcher, but it's a double-edged sword as it's the main reason there's a lot of incompatibilities for a lot of people. Then it creates an internal buffer at the resolution you selected, and upscale/downscales it to 1920x1080. The game then selects the display mode of 1920x1080 (based on your desktop), but uses the refresh rate of a different display mode (1680x1050). When you select 1680x1050 inside the game, it's likely that the first refresh rate retrieved is actually 60 hz. I don't deal with 1080i normally so I'm not sure what's that caused by, but I'm gonna assume that it's due to the weird refresh rate selected. Depending on your TV / Driver settings, this explains the issues for people where the first mode selected is 24hz/50hz. When you select 1920x1080 inside the game, it requests the first refresh rate available. The game boots and selects this dedicated fullscreen mode at 1080p. ![]() To explain your example here, I'm gonna assume your desktop normally runs at 1920x1080. I tried with multiple versions of proton (Including Glorious Egg) and with steam runtime and steam native (I use manjaro linux). But when I try to switch to fullscreen it crops some of the screen like this. However, it requests the first refresh rate available of the hardcoded resolution option you selected off the list. When I try to load Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance with Proton in linux, it works fine in windows mode. ![]() Third, the actual refresh rate sent to be selected to the display mode IS actually requested from the display itself. This is normally something only done for borderless fullscreen modes, not for dedicated ones. Whatever you set it on internally doesn't actually affect the display mode sent to your monitor/TV (resolution-wise). Second, what they do when booting up the game in fullscreen mode is to request the resolution of your desktop. That really sucks and is not proper practice at all. I've investigated this game for quite a while and even did the patcher for the resolutions, so I'll explain what's the reason of the weird issues.įirst, you're aware already that 6 of the resolution options in the game are just hardcoded.
